About the Role

The School of Business and Management (SBM) seeks to recruit an outstanding teacher and scholar to a Senior Lectureship in Leadership & Management (Teaching & Scholarship). Applicants for the senior lectureship should already have a PhD in Management or in other relevant areas and experience in teaching leadership and management related subjects at undergraduate, post-graduate and ideally also professional training / executive education level. This post offers an opportunity to make a major contribution to the development of teaching and scholarship in the area of leadership and management studies in a rapidly growing and distinctive management school.

About You

Applicants should be able to demonstrate the capacity to teach and make important pedagogical contributions to the field at an internationally excellent level or higher. Candidates for this senior lectureship will have completed a doctorate in a relevant subject and be able to demonstrate the capacity for excellence in teaching and scholarship. The School is strongly committed to the development of all its staff and we will ensure that the successful candidate has the opportunity to develop their teaching, scholarly contributions and administrative skills.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute particularly to leadership-related subjects but also have the ability to teach broader topics relating to management (from an organisation studies perspective) and/or research methods on our MSc and undergraduate programmes as well as contribute to any future developments at professional training/executive education level. Applicants are expected to have substantial experience in teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level in large or small group settings with the demonstrable ability to deliver teaching at both levels and ideally also at executive education level.

We are also seeking for evidence of significant, high-quality scholarly contributions and/or engagement with the practitioner community at a senior level as well as clear and ambitious plans for future scholarship activities. Applicants will also be expected to demonstrate how they can contribute to the development of leadership and management programmes within the Department of People and Organisations.

About the School of Business and Management, and the Department of People & Organisations

The School of Business and Management is one of the eight schools in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The School has been undergoing a period of rapid growth, doubling our number of academic staff over the last five years. We presently have 100 academic staff. We have over 2,000 undergraduate business studies students plus approximately 800 students taking business in combination with other degree subjects within QMUL. At the post-graduate level we have approximately 1,100 MSc students and a well-established doctoral programme of around 80 doctoral students.

SBM’s core purpose is to promote social justice, sustainability and good governance in the management of private, public and voluntary organisations through our research and education. We are a distinctive School that takes a humanities and social science-led approach to our scholarship, including interdisciplinarity and are now the largest school within QMUL’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, with its traditional strengths as a site of critical thinking in the humanities, law, history, geography and politics.

The Department of People and Organisations has 20 permanent academic staff. It is host to the CIPD accredited International Human Resource Management MSc and our academic staff also contribute to the School’s BSc programmes in business and management, teaching compulsory and elective modules. We are also interested in developing programmes at professional training/executive education level. Our core mission as a Department is twofold: to lead with excellence in both education and research in multi-disciplinary fields pertaining to organisational behaviour, human resource management and employment relations and the effects at multiple levels, from the individual to the organisational and the institutional; and to promote in our practice and teaching the values of social justice, equality, diversity and inclusion and wellbeing. We are exploring the interaction between people and organisations in a world that is rapidly changing and facing new challenges around managing equality and diversity, intersectionality, leadership, learning and innovation as well as the challenges to individuals’ personal and professional development in diverse management contexts. We do so by drawing on both mainstream and less mainstream research methods and approaches.
