Main Responsibilities

The work consists of teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels as well as own research in Statistics. The work also includes course development, course responsibility and thesis supervision. The applicant will also carry out pedagogical development work and participate in other institutional work such as being a member of committees and working groups.

Teaching and thesis supervision at the undergraduate level are mainly in Swedish, at the graduate level exclusively in English.

The applicant is expected to contribute to the department's development work in research and teaching.


Qualification Requirements

Eligible applicants for the position of senior lecturer should hold a PhD in statistics or another closely related field, or have equivalent research skills and have demonstrated teaching expertise. Applicants who do not hold a PhD in statistics must provide documented evidence clearly supporting their statistical competence.

The applicant must have a documented ability to use English in speech and writing at a professional level. This can be demonstrated, for example, by documented experience of teaching in English or a certificate of language skills corresponding to at least B2 level (CEFR).

The applicant must have the ability to cooperate with colleagues as well as other abilities that are required in order to successfully meet the demands of the position.


Assessment Criteria

Special and equal emphasis is placed on teaching proficiency and research skills within the field of statistics or another closely related discipline. Research skills demonstrated through clearly documented research experience. Teaching proficiency should normally be demonstrated through teaching experience at both the undergraduate- and master’s levels. Teaching proficiency should be well documented in a manner that makes it possible to assess the quality of the teaching activities.

Strong emphasis will be placed on:

  • Documented ability to cooperate well with colleagues and fellow researchers
  • Having successfully planned, applied for and obtained research project funds from external research funding bodies
  • Documented experience of integrating statistical theory with modern computational methods in education or research
  • Documented ability to use Swedish in speech and writing at a professional level (e.g., teaching experience in Swedish or CEFR B2 certificate)

Emphasis will be placed on:

  • Administrative skills and proven collaboration with the surrounding society and dissemination of research and development findings
  • Documented experience of applying statistics within other subject areas

It is a merit to have completed at least 15 higher education credits in teaching and learning in higher education or to have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge.


About the Employment

This position (“universitetslektor”) is full-time, indefinite-term employment.

The employment includes time for competence development and research according to the current terms and conditions of the collective agreement.

An applicant who does not have at least 15 higher education credits in teaching and learning in higher education, and is not deemed to have acquired equivalent knowledge, must complete such training within the first two years of employment.


Additional Information

Proficiency in Swedish is not a requirement for the position, but the applicant has to be ready to take on administrative and pedagogical tasks that demand an understanding and usage of Swedish after two years of employment.

A scientifically active and well-qualified applicant may, by agreement, receive extra allocation of research time within the position with up to an additional 20% of full time in addition to the current terms and conditions agreement for a maximum of two years.
