The Opportunity

The School of Biological Sciences is recruiting for a limited number of Teaching Associates to help deliver our First Year Biology program.

As a Teaching Associate, you will work independently and interdependently teaching and marking the practical/lab components of undergraduate biology units. You will work with the support, guidance, and direction from the relevant unit and teaching coordinators to inspire active learning and motivate students to achieve their best and help them meet the desired learning outcomes. This role is sessional and as such work is only available during the University teaching semesters (late February - late May, late July - late October).

This role will require teaching and marking across a broad range of biology-based disciplines, notably:

  • Biochemistry
  • Botany
  • Cell Biology
  • Ecology
  • Environmental Science
  • Evolution
  • Genetics
  • Microbiology
  • Molecular Biology
  • Zoology

Selection Criteria

Essential:

  • Minimum of a biology-based science degree with Honours and/or an education degree and/or equivalent degree with relevant experience
  • Previous teaching/tutoring experience in VCE biology and/or undergraduate-level biology (minimum 2 years)

Highly desirable:

  • Qualifications and experience in secondary school biology teaching
  • Experience within a similar role in a tertiary environment
  • Experience teaching in both face-to-face and online environments
  • VIT registration
  • Sound knowledge and experience of laboratory teaching spaces in OHS, safety, and compliance
