We are now looking for a university teacher to the Faculty of Education to join the Research Unit Values, Ideologies and Social Contexts of Education, Faculty of Education. The teaching position is for research-informed teaching of international study programmes which are taught in English. The position will be filled from 1 August 2021 or as soon as possible.

Open position and tasks

The university teacher’s tasks focus on teaching mainly for programmes on global education and teacher education, including also contribution to planning and coordination of studies, tutoring of students, student selection processes, supervision and assessment of theses. The university teacher will work closely with the Education, Diversity, Globalisation and Ethics (EDGE) team. Additionally, the university teacher participates in developing and enhancing the work of EDGE team and the study programmes in administrative tasks, and in international and national collaboration at the faculty level. 

Qualification requirements

Applicants for this position are required to hold a master’s degree in education or in another relevant field, good teaching skills and teaching experience (described in the teaching portfolio, see the attached instructions), to have professional level English language skills, good coordination and collaboration skills, and to have knowledge or work experience related to international degree programmes in education. Pedagogical training, supervision and international collaboration experience, doctoral studies with a related topic, and knowledge or studies of Finnish language are additional merits that may be considered.


A salary in accordance with the Finnish universities salary system for teaching and research personnel: level 4-5. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50% of the job-specific component). Starting gross salary will be approx. 3000-3600€ per month (before taxes). A trial period of six months is applied in the position. The position will be filled from 1 August 2021 or as agreed. Good teaching skills are demonstrated by a teaching demonstration. This is permanent position to be filled as of 1.8.2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. Instructions for the teaching portfolio

According to the policy approved by the University of Oulu, the teaching skills referred to in the Appointments Decree (Decree on the Appointment of Professors at Universities 1581/91; Amendment 462/98) are assessed according to the outline below:

1. Teaching philosophy and characterisation of yourself as a teacher - thinking underlying your teaching, the personal background idea of your teaching: how is this to be seen in your work as a teacher? Description of yourself as a teacher and worker in the teaching profession
2. Practical experience gained in the teaching profession, how you develop your teaching
3. Production and use of learning materials
4. Maintenance of your teaching skills
5. Feedback received on your teaching (student and peer assessments, awards and approved teaching demonstrations)
6. Vision of the development of your work as a teacher
- provide a brief plan for the development of your teaching and work as a teacher in the near future, e.g. in relation to the department’s curriculum
